Frequently Asked Questions
Is You Can Sit With Us registered with Ofsted?
No — we are not an Ofsted-registered setting.
Because we offer independent learning support, not full-time formal education or childcare, registration isn’t required under current UK guidelines.
We operate for less than 18 hours per week per child and only accept children aged 8 and over.
We do, however, take safeguarding very seriously: all our team members have enhanced DBS checks, first aid training, and a full safeguarding policy in place.
How do you make sure the space is safe for my child?
Safety is our top priority.
We complete full risk assessments at every venue we use (village or church halls with toilets and easy access).
Staff are trained in safeguarding and first aid.
We maintain clear supervision ratios to ensure all children are supported.
We have a strict sign-in/sign-out system, and children can only leave with their authorised adult.
We have policies around device use, behaviour, and emergency procedures — and parents are fully informed before the first session.
What makes You Can Sit With Us welcoming and different from other groups?
From the moment your child arrives, we make sure they feel seen and included. We will always greet every child warmly at the door — with a hello, a wave, or a smile.
We encourage kindness and inclusion among the children, and we don't allow cliques or exclusion.
We believe every child should be able to work independently but never feel isolated.
It’s a calm, supportive space — not a school, not a club — something new and positive for home-educated children.
What will my child do during the session?
Children bring their own learning materials — whatever that looks like for them.
They might:
Read a book or eBook
Work on a laptop or tablet
Write in a journal or complete a workbook
Sketch or plan a project
We supervise lightly to make sure everyone stays safe and focused, but we don’t provide lessons or directed activities. It’s their time to learn their way.
What if my child feels nervous or struggles to settle?
That’s totally okay — and very normal!
Our space is friendly and very low-pressure. If your child hasn’t settled, we can give you a quick call and go from there.
If your child feels overwhelmed, they’re welcome to take quiet breaks, and we always check in discreetly if someone seems unsure.
We never pressure anyone to work a certain way — this is their space to build confidence in a gentle, understanding environment.
What is your social media and mobile phone use policy?
Mobile phones are allowed, however, we would like to advise that phones be kept on silent.
Taking photo’s and video’s is not permitted.
We would gently encourage the children not to browse social media during our sessions. This includes: Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram or Snapchat. We would ask not to post up about YCSWU or anything related to it without prior permission whilst at our sessions.
If you are listening to something through one of your devices, please use headphones.
Our full social media policy will be available in our parent pack.
